This candidate should be capable of independently designing a substation’s secondary system, having proven experience delivering substations from a technical specification, to the detailed design deliverables themselves. The candidate should specify their experience with IEC 61850.
Similar to the protection engineer, they should have experience in either transmission and/or distribution applications, however the key difference is their work will be focused on designing and producing the detailed protection and control drawings, with the support of the protection and SCADA engineer. This candidate must have experience completing the “design-drafting” and preferably have used the Elecdes software tool. This person may also act as a project engineer at times, and assist with logistics, procurement, etc. If the candidate has experience with the Primary Design (grounding, lighting, etc) this should be specified.
Design: Completing the detailed protection and control design, while managing the various support services, including drafters, document controllers, etc. Producing the AC/DC schematics, block logic diagrams, I/O lists, cable/wire schedules, single line diagrams, etc. If the candidate has hands-on experience working with ACAD tools – specifically ElecDes – this would be of value.
